Who are we?

Established in 1964, Hyde Sails manufacture around 40,000 sails per year from our modern factory in the far east. Our 300 staff are highly trained, well paid and directed from the UK where our management, sales and R&D functions are based in two offices, one at Hamble Point Marina and one in Ipswich.
We have a worldwide and increasing network of agents and distributors, we manufacture sails for independent sailmakers and OEM boat builders, but our core business is making bespoke yacht sails for individual customers.

About the Job

You need to be creative, enthusiastic and self-motivated, full of initiative, and passionate about helping us to develop our social media strategy. Our new website is currently being developed, and you will have responsibility for managing this (including loading new product information), along with our LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram accounts, helping to increase engagement with posts and analysing metrics, therefore you should have some experience of managing and growing social media accounts. We also want you to research new ideas on growing our online presence and make suggestions on other platforms we should be using, so you need to be confident in writing reports and presenting your ideas to colleagues and managers. You will also plan and create engaging content to promote Hyde Sails to new audiences, therefore strong communication skills are essential.

No experience of website development is required however, a basic understanding of a WordPress website would be useful, as would be an understanding of SEO and the requirements of a website to deliver organic search results.

Please note that this role has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

The role is based at our office in Hamble Point Marina, and the hours are Monday-Friday 09:00 – 17:00.
Whilst an interest in/experience of sailing isn’t essential.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Developing our social media strategy to increase engagement and target new audiences, and regularly analysing our social media metrics.
  • Designing and creating graphics and visual content for social media, thinking of new ideas for posts and monitoring/updating our social media pages
  • Optimising search results with key words and meta tags
  • Carrying out research for team projects
  • Responding to customer feedback and maintaining communications online
  • Producing an e-newsletter, writing up case studies and creating related content for our website
  • Responding to online enquiries

Essential Skills and Behaviours

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in a business/marketing/IT subject.
  • An understanding of digital marketing strategies/tactics and knowledge of current trends/best practice.
  • Familiarity with various social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn).
  • Ability to work to deadlines and organise your own workload, and to manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in English.
  • Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively both in person and remotely, and as part of a small team.
  • Accurate with attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and embrace new ideas.

Desirable Skills and Behaviours

  • Web Design/SEO.
  • Knowledge of the sailing industry.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
